Peter Strening and Rebecca McFee – Leading Spiritual Care at Columbine Health

Columbine Health Systems is proud to spotlight two dedicated professionals who bring warmth, compassion, and spiritual care to our communities: Peter Strening, Chaplain and Director of the Columbine Health Systems Clinical Pastoral Education (CHSCPE) program, and Rebecca McFee, Director of Chaplaincy.

Meet Peter Strening

Peter serves as the Chaplain at Columbine Health and is also the Director of CHSCPE. He holds a Master in Divinity, which deepens his ability to offer comprehensive spiritual care to the residents. His daily responsibilities are extensive and meaningful, including offering one-on-one spiritual care to residents, developing group activities, supporting staff members, supervising CHSCPE students, and handling administrative tasks related to spiritual care.

What Peter enjoys most about his job is building relationships with the residents, witnessing their courage and dignity, and learning from their life experiences. He also finds great fulfillment in being part of the care teams across Columbine's communities, where he is continually inspired by his colleagues.

When he's not providing spiritual care, Peter enjoys spending time with his spouse Doti, their two sons, and their granddaughter. He loves being outdoors, especially cycling, and enjoys music and the beauty of Colorado.

Meet Rebecca McFee

Rebecca McFee, Director of Chaplaincy, has been a vital part of Columbine Health for 10 years. She holds a Masters of Divinity and a Master's in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, along with being a board-certified chaplain with experience in trauma level 1 hospitals and long-term care. Her diverse educational background enables her to offer deep emotional and spiritual support to residents.

Rebecca visits five Columbine communities each week, where she leads spiritual care groups, including in Dementia Care Units. Her daily activities involve offering direct spiritual care to residents, coordinating spiritual care with hospice and area clergy, and leading community memorials. She takes pride in the opportunity to meet fascinating and wonderful people, offering kindness, emotional, and spiritual support to those impacted by illness or injury.

Rebecca is married with two grown sons and a dog named Lola. Having lived in Colorado for 15 years, she enjoys nature, travel, reading, playing piano, and gardening. She’s also a fan of football, basketball, and tennis, though she prefers watching them!

The Impact of Spiritual Care

Peter and Rebecca bring immense value to Columbine Health by ensuring our residents feel supported, heard, and connected. Their dedication to providing comfort, guidance, and spiritual enrichment makes a significant difference in the lives of those they serve.

Together, Peter and Rebecca are leading efforts to enhance spiritual care across Columbine Health communities, enriching the lives of our residents, families, and staff. We’re grateful for their commitment to creating a compassionate environment where everyone feels valued and cared for.
