ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY
One of the things that make our facilities so special is the art and photography that is exhibited throughout our buildings. These images are from Vic Schendel's collection. Click here to see more of Vic's photography.
This photograph was taken in Yankee Boy Basin in the beautiful San Juan mountains of southwestern Colorado. It was published in the Sierra Club calendar and captures a field of columbines and paintbrush, framed by soaring peaks, awash in early morning light. It has always been one of Vic's favorites.
The wolf, nearly hunted to extinction in the Lower 48, has made a dramatic comeback and is another iconic legend of the American West. Some who have heard their call of the wild describe it as haunting and others as mournful. To capture them howling in a Montana winter storm is one of Vic's favorite images.
