Speech Therapist

The Speech Therapist evaluates patient to determine clinical dysfunction and treatment goals in cooperation with the physician; develops a treatment program based on initial evaluation and with ongoing assessment, makes appropriate changes in the program according to the patient's progress; supervises direct patient care performed by therapy assistants, students, and volunteers; instructs patient and/or family members in home program; maintains all records pertinent to patient care.

Communicates with physicians, family, and other team members regarding changes or modifications in treatment plan or patient care/status; participates in or ensures representation at all team rounds, conferences, and meetings related to patient status/care; screens, identifies, assesses, interprets, diagnoses, and rehabilitates disorders of speech and language, cognitive/communicative disorders, oral-pharyngeal function and related disorders; assesses, selects, and develops augmentative and alternative communication systems and providing training in their use.

Provides aural rehabilitation and related counseling services to hearing-impaired individuals and their families; assists supervisor with staff education and in-services; maintains clinical competency through continuing education opportunities; assists with ordering and maintenance of the department and equipment; and other duties as assigned. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Speech Language Pathology (Master's Degree) and have a certificate of clinical competence from ASHA. Experience in geriatric and long-term care preferred.
