Speech Language Pathologist

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of Speech Language Pathology
    (Masters Degree).
  2. Experiences in geriatric and long-term care preferred.
  3. Certificate of clinical competence from ASHA.


Direct Patient Care Responsibilities:

  1. Upon referral of patient, evaluates patient to determine clinical dysfunction and treatment goals in cooperation with the physician.
  2. Develops a treatment program based on initial evaluation, and with ongoing assessment, makes appropriate changes in the program according to the patient’s progress.
  3. Supervises direct patient care performed by therapy assistants, students and volunteers.
  4. Instructs patient and/or family members in a home program.
  5. Maintains all records pertinent to patient care.
  6. Communicates with physicians, family and other team members regarding changes or modifications in treatment plan or patient status.
  7. Participates in or ensure representation at all team members regarding changes or modifications in treatment plan or patient status/care.
  8. Provides periodic screenings of long term care residents to determine therapeutic needs.
  9. Screening identifying, assessing, and interpreting, diagnosing, rehabilitating and preventing disorders of speech and language.
  10. Screening, identifying, assessing, and interpreting, diagnosing and rehabilitating disorders of oral-pharyngeal function and related disorders.
  11. Screening, identifying, assessing, and interpreting, diagnosing and rehabilitating cognitive/communicative disorders.
  12. Assessing, selecting, and developing augmentative and alternative communication systems and providing training in their use.
  13. Providing aural rehabilitation and related counseling services to hearing-impaired individuals and their families.
  14. Various other duties may be added as needed.
