Medical Records Supervisor

The Medical Records Supervisor is responsible for preparing census data and submitting reports to the administration; instituting admission procedures for new and re-admission residents pertinent to the medical record department; preparing Quality Management (QM) review forms; taking and transcribing minutes of QM Meetings; checking all charts on a routine basis for deficiencies and communicating these to proper personnel; maintaining all registers, indices, and tickler files necessary for medical record functions, and regulations; sends correspondence related to the medical record department; purges charts according to established policy and files purged records in the office file; closes and files the records of discharge records according to standard process; checks out filed medical records to authorized persons, secures their return and safeguards information contained in the medical records; attends required meetings in the facility, records and transcribes minutes of those meetings; understands state and federal laws and regulations regarding medical records, educates other departments involved and helps assure compliance with those laws and regulations; must handle all telephone communication concerning work in the medical record department; and assures that all necessary forms, equipment, and needed supplies are on hand.

Must be a high school graduate. Experience in medical records, working with computers, and typing/filing preferred.
