Director of Nursing

The Director of Nursing is expected to exercise full supervision including developing and maintaining nursing service objectives; recruitment, retention, and evaluation of each individual's continued employment; planning, staffing, and budgeting for all nursing personnel including the restorative nursing department; updating, at least annually, nursing care policies, procedure manuals, and patient care policies; keeping apprised of all regulatory changes to both state and federal regulations and keeping nursing staff informed of such changes through regularly scheduled meetings; implementing and coordinating the Quality Improvement/ Assurance Program; part of the Utilization Review Committee, acting as an integral part of the committee, making determinations in the absence of the Administrator (with input from other committee members) regarding length of stay, Minimum Data Set requirements, therapy intervention, and care of the residents; responsible for the evaluation of psychotropic medications, restraints, and other nursing treatments and procedures for effectiveness and titration as recommended by the resident's physician; assures that care planning, MDS completion and submission are done timely and that both the MDS and the care plan reflect the current condition of the patient; assists with the selection and maintenance of equipment for the unit; arranges for continuing education and schedules in-service training for procedures unfamiliar or new to nursing personnel; screens all new admissions; and in the absence of the Administrator assumes administrative duties including supervision of the Department Heads.

Must possess, as a minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university and possess a clear, unencumbered license from the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse. Must have knowledge of nursing service administration, geriatric rehabilitation, psychiatrics, and geriatrics.
